NEVERMORE, the legendary heavy metal band, has announced a new lineup and a fresh start with Reigning Phoenix Music. The band, known for its distinctive sound and powerful performances, is back with a renewed focus and a new era of music. But here's where it gets controversial... The return of NEVERMORE has sparked debates among fans and critics alike, with some questioning the decision to move forward without original members. Nevertheless, the band is determined to forge ahead with a new vision, and the results are sure to be thrilling for fans of modern metal.
The new lineup features Jack Cattoi on guitar, Semir Özerkan on bass, and a new vocalist, Berzan Önen. Guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams, the band's founding members, are excited to embark on this new chapter. 'We can't wait to get back on stage in Istanbul and share our new music with our fans,' says Van. 'It's been a long time coming, and we're thrilled to be back.'
But the story of NEVERMORE is not without its complexities. The band's disbandment in 2011 was marked by personal differences and a controversial statement from Warrel Dane, who described NEVERMORE as 'the greatest band that alcohol ever ruined.' The passing of Warrel in 2017 further complicated matters, leaving a void in the band's history. However, the band is determined to move forward, honoring their legacy while embracing new beginnings.
'We felt that sometimes, for the sake of a fresh start, it's necessary to move on from relationships that may no longer be conducive to growth or new beginnings,' says Van. 'We made this decision with the intention of honoring the legacy of the band while moving forward in a way that felt right for us at the time.'
The new music is already taking shape, and the band is focused on creating something fresh and exciting. 'If the new music had to be described by one word, that would have to be delicious,' says Van. 'Because it's so good it's gonna leave you hungry for more.'
The addition of Berzan Önen as the new vocalist has been a powerful evolution for the band. 'He really stood out strong in so many ways upon a first listen,' says Jeff. 'I could really feel the emotion and passion when I heard him sing for the first time. He wasn't just going through the motions.'
As NEVERMORE steps into 2026, the mission is grounded in honesty and intensity. 'Van and I are super passionate about the band,' says Jeff. 'What we deliver and bring back to the audience is us wanting to hear those old tracks again just as much as the fans. We obviously want our old fans there every step of the way, but also look forward to meeting a new generation of fans as well.'
The band's history is an extraordinary lineage of musicians who shaped its evolution. Guitarists Pat O'Brien, Tim Calvert, Steve Smyth, and Chris Broderick each left a distinct imprint on the band's catalog and live presence. Bassist Jim Sheppard played a central role in shaping the band's identity during its defining years. However, the band's reunion has sparked debates about the involvement of Jim Sheppard, with some questioning the decision to move forward without him.
Despite the controversies, NEVERMORE is determined to move forward with a new vision and a fresh start. The band's new music and performances are sure to be thrilling for fans of modern metal, and the future looks bright for this legendary band.
