In a significant development for the 2026 Formula 1 season, former Alpine driver Jack Doohan has officially joined the Haas team as a reserve driver. This move marks a new chapter in Doohan's racing career, which has already seen its share of highs and lows.
Jack Doohan, son of the legendary five-time 500cc motorcycling World Champion Mick Doohan, previously served as a reserve driver for Alpine during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He even stepped up to race in seven events, starting with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2024 and continuing through the first six races of 2025. Following this stint, he returned to his reserve role but was ultimately replaced by Franco Colapinto later in the season. Last month, Doohan and the Enstone-based Alpine team parted ways, paving the way for his fresh start with Haas.
As the official pre-season testing approaches in Bahrain next week, Haas has confirmed that Doohan will join Japanese racer Ryo Hirakawa as part of their reserve driver lineup. Doohan expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Haas team, stating, "I’m thrilled to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team. It’s the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career. I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together. I’m eager to begin working with the team and collaborating on a successful season."
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu shared his excitement about Doohan's addition, remarking on the strength of his racing background and the valuable experience he brings from his time as a reserve driver in Formula 1. Komatsu noted, "The dedication required to remain sharp and prepared to race while getting to know how the team functions is a challenge for any driver—especially one who is clearly still very eager to compete at this level. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Jack, and we look forward to welcoming him into the team and benefiting from his contributions."
As Haas continues to develop their competitive car for the upcoming season, they are actively preparing for the first of two three-day testing sessions in the Bahrain desert, scheduled to start on February 11. This season promises to be an exciting one, not just for Haas but for all teams as they gear up for the challenges ahead.
