Breaking News: Missouri has just snagged former Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons from the transfer portal! This move is set to shake up the Tigers' quarterback lineup.
Missouri's coaching staff has made a strategic play by bringing in Austin Simmons, previously of Ole Miss. This marks their initial quarterback acquisition from the transfer portal this offseason. The news broke on Friday, the very first day the portal reopened, and has now been officially confirmed.
Simmons, a former three-star recruit from the 2023 class, redshirted during the 2023 season. He saw action in 17 games throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including two starts.
Over his career, Simmons has thrown for a total of 1,026 yards, completing 60% of his passes, with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He also contributed 85 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Simmons entered the transfer portal on January 2nd, immediately following Ole Miss's victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. He's committed to supporting the Rebels throughout their College Football Playoff journey.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, Simmons began the 2025 season as Ole Miss's starting quarterback. However, an ankle injury sustained against Kentucky in the second game of the season led to Trinidad Chambliss taking over as the starter for the remainder of the season.
In his two starts during 2025, Simmons threw for 576 yards, maintaining a 60% completion rate, with three touchdowns and four interceptions, securing wins against Georgia State and Kentucky. After losing his starting position to Chambliss, Simmons still played in six more games during the regular season.
Simmons joins a Missouri quarterback room already featuring Matt Zollers, Sam Horn, Brett Brown, and incoming 2025 signee Gavin Sidwar. Interestingly, Beau Pribula, who started 10 games for Missouri in 2025, has also entered the transfer portal.
Could Missouri be looking for more? They've also shown interest in Amari Odom, formerly of Kennesaw State, who is scheduled to visit on Wednesday.
But here's where it gets controversial... What impact will Simmons have on the existing quarterback dynamics at Missouri? Will he be able to quickly adapt to a new system and compete for the starting position?
And this is the part most people miss... The transfer portal has become a crucial element in college football roster management. This move highlights the evolving landscape of player movement and team building.
